The Legend of Banyuwangi by Sukma Ayu Ningsih

One day, there was a royal ruler named Raja Sulahkromo. The king has a Prime Minister named Raden Sidopekso. The Prime Minister has a wife named Sri Tanjung. He was so beautiful that the king wanted him to be his wife.

One day, the King sent the Prime Minister for a long mission. While the Prime Minister left, the King tried to get Sri Tanjung's love. But he failed. He is very angry. Thus, when Sidopekso returned, the King told him that his wife was not loyal to him. The Prime Minister was very angry with his wife. Sri Tanjung said that was not true. However, Sidopekso said that he would kill him.

He brought it to the river bank. Before he killed him and threw him into the river, he said that he was innocent would be proven. After Sidopekso killed him, he threw his body into a dirty river.

The river immediately became clean and began to spread a beautiful aroma. Sidopekso said, "Banyu ... Wangi ... Banyuwangi". This means "fragrant water". Banyuwangi was born from the proof of noble and holy love.
